Volunteer Opportunities

Congregation Or Tzion prides itself on being a participatory community. We are always looking for volunteers who wish to energize our congregation and enhance our feeling of community. If you are interested in finding out more about a particular committee, please contact the synagogue office.

Education: This committee meets monthly throughout the year. Our responsibilities are to assist Religious School staff as needed, assist clergy/staff with adult education decisions and plan special educational programs. Education VP: Sandee Levine

Facilities: The facilities committee is responsible for keeping the physical synagogue in top-notch condition by overseeing services provided by contractor, e.g. cleaning, security, lighting, AC, and heating. The committee meets on an as-needed basis. Facilities Chair: Scott Stone

Finance: This committee meets monthly to establish financial policies and procedures as well as to provide oversight for the accounting operations of the congregation. Treasurer: Michael Portnoy

Fundraising: The fundraising committee is comprised of congregants with an interest in helping to raise funds for the synagogue. The committee meets monthly to plan and carry out the various activities necessary to make our fundraising events successful. Fundraising Chair: Alison Feinberg

Greeters: Our greeters for Shabbat Services and Holidays are here to welcome you to services and to hand out any materials needed for the service. If interested in being a greeter, please read the Guidelines for Greeters here. Greeter Coordinators: Dennie Lieber + Susan Portnoy

High Holidays: This committee is responsible for the planning and implementation of High Holiday activities, including marketing, mailings, memorial book, facilities, ushers, coordinators, Selihot, Tashlih, Break-The-Fast community dinner, and Sukkot. This committee meets once or twice a month from May through September. High Holiday Chairs: 

Marketing: The marketing committee is charged with getting the word out about our dynamic congregation by designing marketing materials and managing our website. Marketing Chair: 

Membership: The membership committee recruits and retains members by creating connections and a community spirit through congregation-wide events and activities. Membership Chair: Stacy Moskowitz

Ritual: This committee meets monthly throughout the year to coordinate all synagogue services. This includes times, content, organization, and leadership. Members of the committee also discuss ritual topics such as Kashrut, religious practice, and Bar/Bat Mitzvah requirements. The committee reviews proposals, discusses alternatives, and makes recommendations to the Rabbis, Cantor, and Board of Directors. Ritual VP: Robert Young

Social Action: This committee reflects the Jewish values of justice-Tzedakah and compassion-Hesed. The committee meets monthly to identify and select the congregation’s social action programs throughout the calendar year. Social Action Chair: Rita Schlosser

Youth Commission: The Or Tzion Youth Commission develops policy and oversees programming for its Kadima and USY chapters in an effort to create a platform for informal Jewish education for Jewish youth that will lead to a positive and meaningful encounter with Judaism through social activities and social action projects.
