Nicky Spivak joined Congregation Or Tzion in July 2018. Much of Nicky’s professional Jewish experience was with Hillel on various college campuses. He served as the Program Director at University of Cincinnati Hillel, the Executive Director of Hillel at Miami University (Ohio), and the Hillel of Tampa Bay, serving the University of South Florida, University of Tampa, Eckerd College and New College. Nicky also has professional experience in JCC, Jewish Federation, and State of Israel Bonds.
Nicky grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. He was very active in the Louisville Jewish community at the JCC and his synagogue. Summers were spent either attending or working at Jewish day camps or residential camps.
This marks a return to the Phoenix area for Nicky. He lived here in the early 1990’s to attend the Scottsdale Culinary Institute and worked in the food industry for a while prior to joining Israel Bonds. Besides cooking and baking, Nicky is interested in sports, movies and travelling. He has a daughter, Alexis (Washington, DC) and a son, Brian (University of Florida).
Stephanie Monier joined Congregation Or Tzion in August 2015, serving as the Administrator for the Roz Goodell Religious School. She currently serves as Or Tzion’s Marketing Coordinator and plans synagogue programs and holiday celebrations! Stephanie participated in the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix’s NowGen Leadership and Advancement series’ 2020 cohort. In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys live music, hiking, local coffee shops, and spending time with her dogs, Benjamin, Zoe, and Joshua.
Marie E. Lewis was born and raised on Chicago’s southeast side. She moved to the Valley of the Sun the summer of 2020 to live the 2nd half of her life. She is the mother of two, Summer, a graduate of Columbia College of Chicago and a dance instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio; and Jamilah, a first-year journalism major at South Illinois University-Carbondale.
Marie received her Associate’s Degree from Lexington College in Hotel Management. She has worked at Hilton Chicago and Starcom MediaVest over her 30-year career. In December 2003, she started working at JUF News in Chicago, as an Advertising Assistant. Over her 16 years at the Jewish United Fund (JUF) she has worked as an Administrative Assistant for Community Outreach working with Birthright Israel, MASA, and the Communications Department. In 2014, she was promoted to Publishing Manager of JUF News which included editing the Simchas, What’s Happening (calendar), For A Blessing (obituaries), and the Guide to Jewish Living in Chicago (in print and online). She returned to school to study Applied Communications with a focus on Public Policy at National-Louis University.
Marie hopes to use her years working in the Jewish community assisting Congregation Or Tzion.
Pam Carson started with Congregation Or Tzion in February 2019, as a bookkeeper through an agency and became an employee in August 2019. She drives for Lyft and Uber in her spare time. Pam lives with her two sons, Chance (22) and Shaun (21). She enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her dogs, Missy and Gordo. On July 3, 2019, her son, Shaun and his girlfriend, Faith welcomed a baby girl, Ryleigh Alexander Carson, into the family. Pam is very much enjoying being “Mimi” to this new baby girl.
Shayna Millman is originally from Detroit and grew up as an active member of their Jewish community. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a Master of Social Work, and a Certificate in Jewish Communal Work from the University of Michigan. Shayna comes to Or Tzion following 7 years of Jewish non-profit experience including work with USY and synagogue youth groups in Chicago, the University of Michigan Hillel, and most recently at the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix. Shayna and her husband, Brad, moved to Arizona in 2018. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, and playing with her dog, Bo. She is extremely excited about working with the youth at Or Tzion and Far West USY and cannot wait to get started in her new role.
Assistant Religious School Director
Sharon joined COT (Or Chadash) in 2010, at which time she also began teaching in the Religious School. Over the past 11 years, Sharon has taught nearly every grade level, as well as serving as our Interim Religious School Director for the 2019-2020 school year. Both of Sharon´s daughters, Sophia and Samantha, are graduates of RGRS and became Bat Mitzvah with the support of Rabbi Caplan. Sharon has been an educator since the early 1990´s, working in various school settings and working with a variety of students. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Special Education and she capitalizes on that knowledge daily in her work. In addition to her work at COT, Sharon works in the community with Gesher Disability Resources, serving students in our local Jewish day schools (did you know there are more than 6 in the valley?!) During those rare times when Sharon is not working, she enjoys relaxing with her dogs and hanging out with her family.
