Miriam Walter

Kindergarten

Miriam Walter is excited to teach her first year of Kindergarten at Or Tzion this year. She has a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Oakland University. She taught swim lessons at the JCC of Metropolitan Detroit for a decade and taught 3rd grade in CA for 1 year. Originally from Michigan, she moved from California to Arizona with her husband, Charles in 2016. She currently enjoys (and stays busy!) being a mom to their one year old baby boy, and in her spare time enjoys running, hiking, yoga, and swimming.

Richelle Burch

Richelle Burch

1st Grade

Richelle Burch is excited to return to the Roz Goodell Religious School as a 2nd grade teacher. After a year off to study for and pass the bar exam, she is ready to bring her love of Judaism and learning back to Or Tzion. Richelle holds her BA in Elementary Education from the University of Arizona and her JD in Criminal and Constitutional Law from Arizona Summit Law School. Richelle has worked as a lead teacher at the JCC Early Childhood center and as a kindergarten and first grade teacher at Or Tzion. When she’s not working, Richelle enjoys relaxing with her cat, Dexter, Crossfit, and spending time with the children she nannies, Brady and Shay.

Sharon Landay

Sharon Landay

2nd Grade and 7th Grade

Sharon Landay, known to her students as Morah Landay, will be starting her eighth year teaching at Or Tzion. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Special Education, both from the University of Arizona (Go Cats!). She enjoys reading, listening to music, napping, and planning a really great garden (yes, planning, not yet planting). Morah Landay is married, has two daughters, Sophia and Samantha, and two dogs, Maisy and Lucy.

Etty Falach

Etty Falach

3rd Grade

Etty Falach moved from South Carolina to Arizona in 2008, with her husband Gabriel and three children. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Seminar Hakibutzim in Israel. Etty has taught Hebrew and Judaic studies for 16 years. She is excited to continue teaching 3rd grade in the Roz Goodell Religious School and to be teaching one of our fantastic Enrichment Classes.

Linda Bailey Freedman

Linda Bailey Freedman

4th Grade

Dr. Linda Bailey Freedman, known as Morah Linda to students, joins our teaching faculty after substituting earlier this school year. Dr. Bailey is a flute and piccolo specialist, teaching and performing in the greater Scottsdale area. Upon arriving in Scottsdale in 2015 with her husband and Mother-In-Law, she walked into the Or Tzion office and said, “I’m here to join.” Dr. Bailey earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Flute Performance and a Theory Certificate from University of Washington. While working on her doctorate, Morah Linda earned the first ever awarded Jewish Teacher’s Certificate by the Jewish Education Council of Seattle, WA. This certificate is awarded to Supplementary Hebrew schoolteachers after intensive learning and continued dedication to Jewish education. Dr. Bailey performs flute/piccolo locally with Desert Echoes Flute Project and nationally with the National Flute Association’s Professional Flute Choir. When Dr. Bailey isn’t teaching she may be cooking and can often be found Israeli dancing on Thursday evenings.

Hedva Illovits

Hedva Illovits

Hedva Illovits is a certified Hebrew teacher from Hertzliah Teacher’s Institute in New York, and a graduate of Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Family Resources and Human Development. She has over 30 years of teaching experience, spanning multiple religious and day schools from Long Island, NY, to Phoenix. In her spare time, Hedva enjoys traveling, hiking, Israeli folk dancing and seeing performing arts. She lives in Scottsdale with her husband Nick.

Yaakov Molho

Yaakov Molho

5th Grade

Yaakov Molho, known to his students as Moreh Yaakov, has taught at Or Tzion for three years. He attended Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles, CA, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. Yaakov teaches 2nd and 6th grade Hebrew studies at Pardes Jewish Day School. Together with his partner Pinina at Molho Photography, he is a professional photographer. Yaakov enjoys cooking, technology, and movies. He lives in Phoenix with his fiancee, his 10 year old daughter, and Malka, his Queensland Heeler dog.

Aviva Levine

Aviva Levine

Aviva Levine, known to her students as Morah Aviva, will be starting her third year teaching in the Roz Goodell Religious School. She holds a Master’s Degree in Forensics from National University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from American Jewish University. In addition to her work at Or Tzion, Aviva is the Development and Outreach Associate at Jewish Free Loan. In her spare time, Aviva loves spending time with friends and family, especially her two nephews, and exploring fun things to do in Phoenix.

Maya Hazan

Maya Hazan

Advanced Hebrew

Maya Hazan was born and raised in Jerusalem, and served in the Israeli army. She studied History and Political Science at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and earned her teaching Degree . In New York she taught middle school Hebrew, Bible, and Mishna, at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Nassau County. In 2006 Maya received an Award of Excellence from Greenspoon­ Steindhard (Avi Chai) for her work as a teacher, educator, mentor, and leader. She has been a team member at Congregation Or Tzion, since 2008.

Golda Avniel has worked with our congregation for almost twenty­ eight years. In addition to teaching in the Roz Goodell Religious School, she has taught kindergarten and helped prepare students to become b’nai mitzvah at several local Jewish institutions. She enjoys meeting our religious school families and discussing any subjects of interest.

Robin Rosenbloom

Robin Rosenbloom

Robin Rosenbloom, known to her students as Morah Robin, has taught at the Roz Goodell Religious School for one year. She has been teaching kindergarten­, 8th grade Hebrew and Jewish studies for over 30 years. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Arizona State University and recently graduated as a “Genius Coach”. She regularly attends seminars and classes in Jewish studies, different learning modalities, special needs, and much more. Each summer she runs a swim school, and enjoys tutoring in Hebrew year round. Robin has worked at Pardes Jewish Day School for thirteen years. She teaches 4th grade Hebrew and Jewish studies, and the 7th grade B’nai Mitzvah class at Congregation Beth Israel. In her spare time she enjoys swimming, making jewelry, and spending time with her family.
